Well I have to say this is my favourite time of year. The birds are singing, the blossoms are on the trees. I start to panic diet at the thought of summer clothes! And then there’s the hair! What do I want my summer hair to look like?  What cuts and colours are trending for Summer 2024.

Well we have a wide selection to choose from, whether it’s the slicked-back buns or the short bobs. Bows or hair ribbons the choices are endless.

SLICKED-BACK STYLE

I have to say though, this slicked-back style has major staying power, it’s been around for decades and it still comes back strong.

It's a clean, polished look that everyone loves — hair that’s been styled but not overdone. It snatches the face for a naturally sculpted look, which is always a winner in my eyes and it truly is a simple enough style to create.

SLICKED-BACK AND MIDDLE PARTING

Slicked-back looks and middle partings are all the look too this summer.

I'm obsessed with sleek hair, I think it goes with everything, from jeans and white shirts to a red carpet look. I just think it makes your entire look so much cooler.

Whether it's in a tight bun or sleek ponytail, these simple hairstyles can be edgy or polished, and they allow hair pieces and accessories to shine, making them a go-to for designers and stylists.

ACCESSORIES

Bows and ribbons.

From Chanel to Jean Paul Gaultier, an outfit simply wasn't complete at last months fashion week without a ribbon to tie back the model's hair and bring the look together.

So what is the art to wearing a simple bow as part of an outfit?

Maybe start by figuring out what type of look you are going for. If you want a more laid back look, opt for a bow that is softer and will fall freely. For a real statement, go for a stiffer bow such as those made from taffeta.

The placement will change the overall look, too.

At the front with a teased updo they feel playful and a little bit sex kitten, but when they are at the back placed lower down the head, it’s more of a Sloaney, duchess vibe.

I would suggest just having fun with it and figure out what fits you and your style.

SHORT BOB

So how about the short bob? Yes it's still with us. As I mentioned in my blog on New Year, New Hair a couple of months back; short bobs continue to dominate for 2024.

While you can never go wrong with a classic bob, the trend is to get even shorter. Sitting at chin length, these short bobs look effortlessly chic no matter how they are styled.

HAIR CONDITION

So we’ve covered styles and trends for your hair this summer, let’s now talk about how to get your hair in its optimum condition.

All that sun might be great for your state of mind, but you need to put in a little bit of prep to ensure strands stay healthy and hydrated in the heat.

Summertime is known for being particularly hot and UV rays are responsible for dehydrating our hair. Therefore, it is important to hydrate your hair before this period to prevent it from becoming dry as soon as the good weather arrives.

For this, we advise you to use oils. Oil whenever is humanly possible. When you go to bed, slap that oil on and tie your hair up. Do a sleek ponytail with as much oil as possible. If you wash your hair every day then this is a great way to skip a day and try one of our sleek looks as we’ve just mentioned by slapping that oil on and doing the slicked back middle parting or bun. We just need as much hydration back in the hair before we dehydrate it in the sun.

My recommendation would be Davines Oi Oil.

It’s a Multi-function oil, that adds shine and softness to hair while also detangling and fighting frizz, it works especially well on coarse or dry hair.

The hair structure is left protected, without weighing it down.

CUT & COLOUR BEFORE YOUR HOLIDAY?

If you’re wondering whether to book in a cut and colour before or after a trip well to me this is a no brainer. Freshly-trimmed ends will ensure the hair is in the best condition to handle the heat, while recently-refreshed hair colour will look incredible in your holiday photos.

So there you have it. All you need to know about what prep and style you need for summer 2024. If you have any questions on anything in this blog or have any hair issues or queries please talk to one of our amazing stylists at Avalon Crouch End or book in for one of our complimentary consultations

Have a great summer!

WHAT’S TRENDING FOR 2024?

As the new year starts you may find yourself thinking about a new look.

While there are a few ways to go about transforming yourself for the next 12 months ahead, a fresh haircut is one of the most exciting routes.

Exciting as that may be, it looks like the bob is continuing to dominate. I don’t know if you noticed but the 2024 Golden Globes red carpet was brimming with bobs!

Put simply, the 2024 haircut trends are embracing the classics. Many people are growing out last year's shag and are going for either a longer style or opting to turn them into a version of a bob.

HUSH CUT

If the longer style is your preference then the hush cut could be the perfect option for you. A blend of face-framing layers and curtain bangs, this look has become one of the top trends this winter.

However if the bob is your favoured route then we have an array of options:-

BUBBLE BOB/MUSHROOM BOB

This style took off last summer and is still exploding on social media now. See below a lovely example of a Bubble Bob/Mushroom Bob by Dan, Director Stylists at Avalon. The bubble bob consists of a rounded shape, where the ends are styled to flick inwards to create that bubble like look. It often contains height and texture throughout the cut to give it a further rounded and bouncy appearance.

THE BOX BOB

A modern take on the most classic bob shape, the box bob is a box-shaped chop cut with blunt ends, clean lines and no layers or graduation of any kind. It's short, sharp and sleek.

Here is an example by Jasmine, Director Stylist at Avalon.

THE ITALIAN BOB

Full-bodied and textured. This style is a little longer in length making it more versatile than other bobs. It's seen an 85% search growth and it's set to stay on our radar in 2024.

THE INVERTED BOB

One of my favourites. Also known as the stacked bob or graduated bob, the inverted bob is back for 2024 but with a modern update. The inverted bob is shorter at the back and gradually longer towards the front, which creates a stacked, angled effect. This haircut accentuates your jawline and brings attention to your cheekbones. The graduated bob features a shorter back with added volume, whilst the front boasts more length. It’s a great haircut for anyone who wants volume and texture but finds their hair too thin for layers. Great for anyone with a rounded face shape.

MICRO BOB

Also seeing a huge boost in popularity is the micro bob, which is (as the name suggests) an ultra-short version of the classic cut. It can be styled various ways and sits just at the cheekbone – making it both extremely wearable and suitable for a wide range of hair types.

THE PARISIAN BOB/FRENCH BOB

The Parisian French-girl bob is a chic and effortless hairstyle that reflects the timeless and sophisticated style associated with Parisian women. It often features a shoulder-length cut with subtle layers, creating a tousled and natural look. The key is to achieve an undone elegance, appearing as if you woke up with effortlessly stylish hair.

So there you have it, the bob is most definitely still trending for 2024. Pop in and ask one of our creative stylists at Avalon North London for what bob would suit your face shape.

Written by Debbie Newman, Owner of Avalon Hair Studios Ltd, Crouch End, London.

So winter is definitely upon us and the dark nights have set in.

I personally think there is no better time of year to reinvent yourself than in these dark winter months!

“But what colour pallets are trending for winter 2023/24?” I hear you ask.

Well our colour expert Jasmine at Avalon, Crouch End has put together the latest colour trends in a way to make this decision a bit easier for us.

This coffee colour pallet may help with finding your next look.

This new reference to coffee hair shades is something that has grown over the last few years. From Pumpkin Spice to Espresso let's go through them individually, kick starting with The Latte.

LATTE

Just like adding milk to coffee, this beautiful rich, creamy blonde suits all skin tones. If you’re not ready to let the summer leave those sunkissed locks then step away from the icy blonde and ask one of our experienced colourist/stylist for a caramel blonde balayage with ultra-thin pieces and a wavy blowdry to accentuate the different tones.

PUMPKIN SPICE

This is one of our most popular requests during the Autumn and Winter months.

Pumpkin Spice is a blend of coppers and beiges.

This hair tone sits differently depending on the tone of your skin. The beauty of these copper tones particularly ‘pumpkin spice latte’ is that it works beautifully with all skin types and complexions with a little tweak of the tones. If you have a warmer complexion I would suggest experimenting more with the gold and copper hues but if you have cooler toned skin, ask one of our colourists to soften the gold and copper hues making the overall colour more beige to avoid bringing too much natural warmth out of the skin.

This shade of colour is one of my personal favourites.

ICED COFFEE

Just like your coffee you can customise this colour to your preference.

So, if you prefer, you can go darker with richer tones for a more classic look. Or you could up the milk factor and go lighter and warmer in certain areas. You could even add a dash of caramel highlights- syrup, anyone? It really is up to you.

CAPPUCCINO

Cappuccino is considered a universal colour, because, depending on the shade and predominance of brown, gold or grey pigments, it can refer to a cold or warm colour palette, which in turn expands the range of its use.

Usually, the sub-tone is selected for clients, taking into account the colour of the skin and eyes. According to our colorists at Avalon, Crouch End, cappuccino hair colour will ideally harmonise with most clients that have an olive-coloured epidermis, as well as brown or green eyes.

Put less milk into your cappuccino and you have a cappuccino balayage.

Balayage is popular for its darker root, which continues to look perfect even when your hair grows. A cappuccino balayage includes the perfect melt of caramel and warmth to create your perfect blend of warm brunette highlights.

ESPRESSO

Inspired by a hot cup of black coffee, espresso hair colour is a neutral, dimensional brunette shade with hints of both black and dark brown. What really makes espresso hair colour special, however, is the high-shine finish that never appears dull.

A great low maintenance, rich, winter colour with no threat of sun fade.

Written by Debbie Newman Owner of Avalon Hair Studio Ltd, Crouch End, London.

If colour fade is your bugbear then you’re not alone.

At Avalon our clients always walk out of our salon looking and feeling amazing!

We pride ourselves as being one of the top colour specialist salon in North London.

The question is do you still look and feel this amazing after several weeks?

Well this all depends on a variety of factors. Without giving our hair the correct TLC, it can look and feel flat, dull and faded way too early.

Don’t worry though, this blog will give you some great tips on how to care for you hair after you leave the salon.

COLD WATER

So how committed are you to your colour?

Would you go as far as to have a cold shower?

Maybe you could turn the temperature down slightly?

Washing your hair in hot water opens the outer cuticles of the hair shaft which is where the colour is held. The cooler the water, the less chance of rinsing that expensive colour down the drain. To finish any hair wash, a great way to retain the colour is to finish with a cold rinse. This closes the cuticles and locks that colour back in.

CUT DOWN ON HOW OFTEN YOU WASH YOUR HAIR

I think we all know that this is an obvious one. Over-washing your hair is one of the main reasons why our hair colour fades. In fact 80% of colour fade is due to hair washing. Between dodgy, cheap shampoos and the chemicals in our tap water, washing your hair every day is what we really need to avoid. If you are an everyday hair washer, start by trying every other day and then gradually try to stretch out the washes by trying different hairstyles.  A slick ponytail is a great way to disguise your oily hair.

Also a good way to absorb the oil is to use a dry shampoo on the roots. This is a way to get you that extra day and surely a lot easier than washing and blow drying but don’t over use this product, too much can result in a build-up of product, dirt and grease on the scalp which can lead to a bacterial injection called folliculitis which can then lead to hair lose. So don’t overdo it guys.

CHANGE YOUR SHAMPOO

Changing your shampoo from the cheap off the supermarket shelf to a more cleansing, gentler one would be a good idea. I’ve always lived by the rule of face and hair are equally as important. So would you wash your face with fairy liquid? No!! Then why would you wash your hair with it. Most of the cheaper shampoos have salts, alcohol and sulphates (lathering agents) in. All of which are hair colour enemies. At Avalon we always use and recommend using, sulphate free shampoo. Here are two great options if you are looking to change your shampoo and not wanting to wash your hair as often.

Davines Volu is lightweight formula that can cleanse hair without damage. Most of our clients say that they need to wash their hair every day as it goes so limp and flat. What we always recommend if this is the case is the VOLU shampoo. The Caprauna Turnip extract in the VOLU shampoo helps keep fine hair lifted, offers visible volume, and won’t weigh it down.

Davines DEDE shampoo and conditioner are our other options. They are powered by Orbassano Red Celery extract, which cleanses hair and leaves it healthy, shiny, and balanced.

SUN DAMAGE

Like our skin, sun damages our hair too. The heat from the sun and the UV rays break down the chemical bonds in our hair making our colour fade and leaving our hair, dry, brittle and dull. The obviously solution to this is to wear a hat. You could use a hair sunscreen and always rehydrate your hair with an oil to bring back some moisture. Davines Oi Oil is a multifunctional oil to add softness and extraordinary shine to hair, with an effective detangling and anti-frizz effect. Ideal for controlling difficult hair and reducing dehydration.

Well I don’t want to go on about sun damage again. If you read my blog on “Keeping your hair healthy on your summer holiday” then you’ll understand the importance of caring for your hair in the sun.

ELECTRICALS

So we have talked a lot about heat on your hair in this blog. Hot water, the heat from the sun. Now we must mention heat from electricals. The hair drier, curling irons and straighteners can quickly damage our hair which again will compromise the colour. Try using a heat protection or blow dry cream before using any electricals. Even better, let the hair dry naturally or turn down the heat setting on your wand or straightener.

A good heat protection is Davines Melu hair shield.

Ideal for protecting all types of hair from stress caused by straighteners or blow dryer. The Melu spray effectively protects the hair from heat stresses.

HAIR CUT

So we all need a haircut after the summer months. Once your hair is dry and brittle, oils can do so much but sometimes the only thing left to do is to chop them off. Having a good cut and removing the porous, damaged ends will help keep your colour bright and glossy.

OLAPLEX

Most people have now heard of Olaplex. This amazing treatment is known for its ability to repair damaged hair and restore its strength and shine. It helps prevent damage, maintain colour and add shine. It’s an overall godsend. Add this service to every colour appointment and I promise you won’t be disappointed. Ask our colour specialist at Avalon for details.

What Kind of Blonde Are You?

Do you actually know what blonde you are?

There really aren't two shades of blonde the same. That’s what is so exciting about blonde hair.

Then we have so many great names for the shades like, butterscotch, strawberry, honey, the list goes on. It’s making me hungry!!!

So what blonde are you?

Are you a platinum blonde?

Wow you’re daring!!! I absolutely love this cool, icy, platinum shade of blonde but I must give you the heads up before committing to this colour. The aftercare is quite high maintenance. Between the regrowth that seems to appear within weeks to the nourishment needed to help repair the hair.

I would highly recommend using Olaplex when creating this colour as it will help minimise the damage.

Trending right now is this platinum blonde with a darker root called a root shadow. This could be your answer to the rapid regrowth issue.

Are you a caramel blonde?

Ok, think J-Lo!

We know you’re not a natural blonde and we know that wouldn’t really suit you but it’s so nice to go that little bit lighter.

I like to call this tone, cosy blonde.

This is where the fancy names come in as it can range from peachy, chestnut and sunkissed to name a few.

The downfall to this shade is over time it can look brassy.

It would be a good idea to book in a toner every 3-4 weeks just to keep the tone and help with the gloss.

Are you a strawberry blonde?

Strawberry blonde is a delicious, warm combination of blonde and red.

It’s extremely rare for people to have hair that is naturally a strawberry blonde colour. Basically, strawberry blonde is mostly based on red tones, with blonde highlights dotted here and there. It takes its name from the Italian renaissance. During this period, women lightened their hair using lemon juice and saffron in combination with the sun’s natural rays of light.

If you are a redhead and want to sway more towards the strawberry blonde tone but don’t want to lose your beautiful rich red colour then why not opt for a face frame.

A Face frame is a highlighting technique adding a pop of lightness and dimension leaving a contouring effect.

Adding that lighter pop around the face can open up your colour around the face.

Are you a champagne blonde?

Let's raise a glass for the beautiful champagne blonde.

This is a creamy blonde that's also infused with platinum and golden tones so an in-between option.

It is a neutral warm, that doesn't have too much yellow and isn't too ashy or flat.

If you’ve already tried champagne blonde, would you be interested in rosé champagne instead?

This shade of champagne blonde is similar to champagne blonde in that it is a beige with a golden undertone, but it also has a splash of rose gold.

Are you a golden blonde?

So golden blonde has had a bad rap over the last few years with our love for grey and ash tones but golden blonde is back this year. Not to its original form I may add but with super-subtle rose, peachy reflects rather than the yellowish gold tones.

Are you a butterscotch blonde?

So what’s the difference between butterscotch blonde and golden blonde I hear you say.

Butterscotch blonde is a colour that lives between light golden tones and rich caramel to sometimes even copper-caramel tones.

It’s an incredibly warm shade that’s deeper and darker than most other blonde shades. As a hair colour, butterscotch looks similar to caramel but features a slightly more pronounced blonde tone.

Are you a dirty blonde?

Sometimes called dishwater blonde. This classic mix of dark and light, dirty blonde hair is that natural shade that works on just about every skin tone as it’s a mix of blonde highlights and lowlights.

This lived in, natural look is a great low maintenance colour for those who wish to go back to basics.

HERE ARE SOME SUMMER HAIR CARE TIPS

HYDRATION

Ok so let’s start with the simple stuff, water. We all know how much our skin dries out in the summer, well so does our hair. Like our skin, our hair needs water, so drink, drink and drink. Throw in a slice of lemon or cucumber if that helps but get that water down you.

SHAMPOO LESS

I have been asked this so many times at our salon, Avalon in Crouch End, London. “Is washing my hair everyday really bad?” Well your hair isn’t going to fall out or anything but it’s not great. Over washing can strip the hair of its natural oils, which moisturises the scalp and helps protect the hair. If you’re an everyday shampooer then next time you’re at Avalon, Crouch End ask one of our Davines trained staff to recommend a shampoo specific for this and your hair type.

Also note, if you have colour on your hair then washing everyday will affect the longevity of your colour. The more you wash your hair the faster the colour fade, which nobody wants.

Ok I know, if not washing your hair every day is just something you can’t ever get your head around then I’d recommend a non-sulphate shampoo, preferably as light as possible. I would recommend Davines Dede which is a delicate daily shampoo, great for fine to medium hair types. It’s a light shampoo so the stripping is minimal.

SWIMMING POOLS

Oooo, the thought of jumping in that swimming pool this summer!!  Well I’m not going to tell you that you shouldn’t but what I will say is that chlorine is obviously essential to kill bacteria but it also does some serious damage to your hair. It can make it dry, brittle and weak which leads to split ends. It generally only effects specific hair types, such is thin or fine hair, colour treated hair, bleached hair/chemical treated hair, dry hair, or hair with existing damage. Well that’s most of us then. So what can we do? Obviously the best thing to do is put a swimming cap on which nobody has wanted to do since the 1950’s but this is the best option. If you are happy to go with this suggestion the one pointer I would recommend is to oil your hair before you put your cap on. This helps the cap slide on with minimal breakage.

Ok so a cap isn’t your first choice and to be honest if it’s only once or twice a year you jump in the pool then you can do without splashing out on a cap ;-). What I would recommend is using that pool shower before you get in. The hair strands absorbs this water and minimizers the amount of chlorine that is absorbed. It’s also a good idea to rinse your hair thoroughly after as I’m sure you can imagine, sun and chlorine is a double whammy for drying out those shiny locks and when shampooing at the end of your day use a clarifying shampoo, followed by a good moisturising conditioner and an oil. Ask one of expert stylist at Avalon Crouch End for advice on what product would be best for your hair type.

BURNT SCALP

It’s common knowledge that slapping the SPF on your face and body is wise before enjoying the sun but do you think about your scalp? Tell me, have you ever burnt your scalp? I have and it’s not pretty. Eventually when your skin starts to repair itself it obviously flakes and you’re left looking like you have a severe case of dandruff! I know, I know, none of us are keen on plastering sun cream over our parting but ouch it can hurt if you don’t and believe me those flakes aren’t attractive.

Putting vanity aside for the moment. Sunburn on the scalp can be dangerous. The risk factor for developing skin cancer like anywhere else on the body is just as high if not higher due to the fact that it’s hard to monitor for moles and early signs of cancer. Most people don’t even know they have moles on their scalp.

So what do we do to protect our scalps? Well the obvious one is wear a hat. Wider the better so as to protect the ears, back of the scalp and neck. If you are thinning or balding then a SPF 50 with a five star UVA rating sunscreen should always be worn.

If you don’t want to wear a hat and your hair isn’t thinning then try diluting some sunscreen with water and spray it into the scalp. Use a high factor sun cream so as not to dilute it so much it has no effect.

LEAVE THE HAIR STRAIGHTENERS AT HOME

Come on girls let’s rock the Monica curls! I know it’s hot and humid out there but do your hair a favour and give it a holiday too. We all know how damaging the straightening irons can be so leave them at home and grab that Oil. Davines Oi Oil is a great product to help control frizz. It protects the structure of the hair without weighing it down so slap the good stuff on and let it dry naturally.

If this is a definite no from you then don’t be disheartened there are still a couple of things you can do.

1/ 72 Hair Treatment – This is an in-salon restorative treatment which is chemical-free and is also vegan! This smoothing treatment penetrates the hair to bring it back to its original healthy state. Like the Keratin treatment the hair smoothing results eliminate frizz, locks in colour and reduces blow drying time for up to 12 weeks. Let’s call is a stepping stone towards the Keratin Blow Dry. Processing time 90 -120 minutes depending on hair thickness and quality. Price from £75

2/ Keratin Blow Dry - At Avalon, Crouch End, we have spent many years trying various products and techniques to master the art of this process and with Keratin Revolution we have found the best results. This hair relaxing treatment is the perfect solution to your frizzy hair woes. So what is a Keratin blow dry I hear you say? Well to start it’s a stronger product than 72 Hair Treatment. It’s a relaxing treatment which removes frizz. It’s a semi-permanent treatment that lasts between 2 – 6 months depending on what your hair type is like and how well you care of your hair. Ask one of our Keratin experts at Avalon Crouch End for advice. Processing time 150 – 180 minutes depending on hair thickness and quality. Price from £160

HAIR TRENDS FOR 2023

So 2023 is here, what is the look for you this year?

Getting ahead of the game never hurts anyone, and what better way to occupy the gloomier months at the start of the year than by planning this year's hairstyle.

With 2022 being one of our most experimental hair fashion years ever thanks to us all being locked up the year before, we are hoping this year will bring just as much fun and edge.

At Avalon salon Crouch End, we saw a huge influence from the 90's, with the big blowdrys and mixie cuts (a mix between a mullet and a pixie cut), bleach blonde and redhead but where can we go in 2023?

Getting the colour and style right can take time so let's get started now.

The general look is still leaning towards a certain effortlessness when it comes to our hair, whether it be through a hair-colouring technique like balayage that grows out beautifully in between appointments or the perfect haircut that suits our face shape with minimal styling. Ask our experienced colourist in our Crouch End salon for a personalised consultation.

Let’s get started on colour.

THE CANDLELIT BRUNETTE

Candlelit brunette has a brunette base colour featuring golden highlights. This is a low maintenance, reverse balayage with golden tones. Beautiful and natural while keeping the face frame, light but warm.

COPPER REDS

All shades of red are spilling over from last year and will be popular in 2023, ranging from fiery reds and deep burgundy to warm auburn. Great for you dark haired girls who aren’t ready to go too light. Fiery red is the look for you.

Now where do we go with the cut? Well let's start with the C Cut.

THE C CUT

Believe it or not the Rachel haircut is having a revival in 2023 and if you’re a TikTok fan then you may know this as the Unicorn Cut. Please don’t try this at home!!!

The salon name for it is the “C cut” and it is much softer and not as heavy on the face framing as the Rachel cut, giving a more rounded, balanced haircut which is still low maintenance and easy to style.

Also trending high is the French Girl Style.

THE FRENCH GIRL STYLE

If shortcuts are your thing then this is your year! We will be seeing, pixie’s, bobs, fringes and variations of all three. With bobs getting squarer and  shorter, the French girl style is the look that is trending this year. With its cheekbone skimming style, you can’t get much chicer than this.

If styling is your thing then get that pintail comb out and try the Barbie Ponytail or the Givenchy Pouf.

THE BARBIE PONYTAIL

Well with the Barbie movie heading our way this spring the high sleek ponytail is trending as the retro girl look continues. This sleek pony is a polished look that can be worn at the office and formal events.

THE GIVENCHY POUF

Another sleek look for this year is the Givenchy red carpet Pouf. I personally love this look as it is such low maintenance and easy to throw back when time isn’t on your side.

This post was written by Debbie at Avalon Hairsalon, Crouch End, North London .

Well we got through this year without anymore interruptions thank goodness!
I'd like to thank all our amazing clients for your loyal custom throughout the year it is very much appreciated.
Please all have a safe and
Happy Christmas.

For the love of hair!!!

So it has finally arrived! Botox for hair!!

"WHAT?" I hear you shout.

I know, I know, what next?

Well, let me tell you a bit about this treatment before you make your decision.

pHrizzy-o-therapy (love that name) was originally created by hairdressers. One of the main questions we get asked is “how do I get rid of frizz”. Our answers vary obviously depending on what type of hair we are dealing with. So let's go through what we as hairdressers suggest for the various types of frizz.

NATURAL FRIZZY/UNRULY HAIR

Say ‘good-bye’ to frizz’!

If you want to keep your curly or wavy locks but want to lose the frizz, then we have the treatment for you. At Avalon Crouch End our stylist have spent many hours researching the best treatment to remove the frizz from curly hair and the Keratine treatment is the best. I must say even though I was glad to see the formaldehyde being removed from all keratin treatments, we struggled to find a product that gave us the same results. After much research and many models later we eventually came across Keratin Revolution Nano Intense Treatment. This is great for smoothing the hair without losing its texture. The Keratin Revolution system allows for complete versatility of style - so you can create a super sleek and straight style or you can go for a more volumised bouncy blow-dry finish - maybe even curls. Ask your stylist at Crouch End Avalon for more details.

FRIZZ FROM DAMAGE

While frizz hair is just a part of some people’s DNA, damaged frizz typically affects those who repeatedly use heat styling equipment and have harmful grooming habits. This can cause breakage, tangling, and split ends — making your hair look dry, dull, and frizzy.

At a microscopic level, frizzy and damaged hair has undergone excessive weathering that’s worn down the outermost layers of your hair shaft, known as the cuticle. Once this is removed, the inner cortex layer is exposed, which can lead to hair breakage. In other words, having frizzy tresses is a sign of significant hair damage that has compromised the structure of your hair strands and stripped its hydration away.

So this is where our  72 Hair pHrizzy-o-therapy Treatment comes in.

pHrizzy-o-therapy is the latest innovation in the care of frizzy, unruly, unmanageable hair that can last-up to 12 weeks per application. Formulated with plant extracts, organic amino acids and keratin, this therapy repairs all hair types, adding strength and elasticity to your hair.

Benefits:

* Restores your hair’s pH balance using key organic and amino acid components, making it soft, frizz-free and luxurious.

* Eliminates frizz and strengthens your hair.

* Hair feels weightless and easy to manage.

* Optimises shine

* Suitable for all hair types

* Quick and easy process

* You can wash your hair the same day

* 80% Organic ingredient

IS YOUR HAIR SUMMER READY?

So summer is here with a bang! I’m sure your wardrobe is ready but is your hair summer ready? It’s time to start thinking about how you can make your hair look its best! Here are a few things you may want to consider before shooting off on your hols.

Be rid of those split ends -

There’s nothing worse than the sun shining its beautiful rays on those dry, damaged ends so let's get a haircut. It’s a great way to feel clean and fresh.

If however you have spent the winter trying your hardest to grow your hair then our stylist at Avalon North London understands a technique called hair dusting. Hair dusting maintains the length of your hair while removing flyaway split ends. It's a way to keep your hair looking healthy while you're trying to grow it out. It can also smooth out hair that's developed a life (and split ends) of its own.

If you would like to know more about split ends then check out our blog on:-

how to get rid of split ends

Throw some light on those locks! -

Get a new hair colour this summer to stay up to date with the latest trends and to brighten up your look. Your Avalon stylist can recommend colours and processes that will suit you and make your hairstyle look amazing but remember to take extra care during the summer. You may find that hair when is overexposure to the sun can lead to colour fading and very dry hair! Swimming pools, sea water, more washing and styling than usual during the summer holidays can also cause a lot more damage so change up your care products, for something with a little more moisture.

This MOMO Moisture Boost Trio floods thirsty locks with nourishment to restore hydration and enhance softness on even the most dry and dehydrated hair. From the first use, you'll notice a difference in manageability and hair will feel in tip top condition.

MOMO shampoo bar - If like most hand luggage is your choice we all know the biggest challenge is the limited liquid size products that we are allowed. Well here’s a great way to get around it.

Davines moisturising solid shampoo for dry or dehydrated hair. A solid texture, for a high performance, that delights from the first application thanks to a rich creamy foam delivering softness, shine and silky texture.

Not only will you be saving the planet with this eco-friendly brand but you’ll be saving yourself a lot of time and embarrassment in the airport when they confiscate your huge bottle of shampoo that you tried to sneak through.

Invest in a hat

Invest in a hat, not only will it set off your summer look, and make you stand out from the crowd as a fashionista, but it will protect your hair and face from the sun. Plus, it's a great option to have a handy hat on bad hair days!
